UCF Head Coach Scott Frost on Nebraska Coaching Experience: ‘Don’t Take the Wrong Job’

Before heading to Nebraska, Frost enjoyed two successful seasons as UCF’s head coach (2016-2017), most notably leading the Golden Knights to an undefeated 13-0 season in 2017, which sparked calls for their inclusion in the College Football Playoff. He moved to Nebraska, which is his alma mater; Frost played as the primary quarterback for the Cornhuskers in 1996 and was part of their 1997 national championship team.
Unfortunately, Frost’s time at Nebraska did not meet expectations, as the program struggled with a 10-26 record in Big Ten games and a total of 16-31 from 2018 to 2022 before he was dismissed three games into the 2022 season. After a year away from coaching, Frost served as a senior analyst for the Los Angeles Rams during the 2024 season, before returning to UCF for a second term as head coach after Gus Malzahn moved on to become the new offensive coordinator at Florida State. The Golden Knights are coming off two consecutive losing seasons, including a 4-8 record last year, which started off with a promising 3-0 run.
Meanwhile, Nebraska appointed Matt Rhule as its new full-time head coach just hours after the team’s final game of the 2022 season. In his first two seasons (2023-2024), Rhule led the Cornhuskers to a combined record of 12-13, and notably returned them to a bowl game for the first time in eight years last season. Nebraska ended the regular season at 6-6 and triumphed over Boston College in the Pinstripe Bowl phbet 11.
